The natural habitat and open space provided by Betty Huntington’s property, which is situated in an intensive agricultural area southwest of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, offers rare regional refugia for songbirds, wetland species, and other native animals and plants. This conservation easement will also contribute to improved water quality in the nearby Minnesota River National Wildlife Refuge by reducing the rate of runoff into Chaska Creek, which crosses through the sanctuary and drains into the Refuge.
