Perched on a hilltop of a coastal peninsula, this
143-acre property provides long vistas of rolling hills, while its woods,
grasslands, brooks, and streams offer safe sanctuary for an intricate
web of wild creatures. Owner Richard Salman has protected the wildlife
here from various human-caused dangers for thirty years, while taking
daily pleasure in the sights and sounds of the many birds and animals,
particularly the American black bears and their cubs. White-tailed deer
wander amid the fields and forests. Coyotes and foxes roam among the hills,
and rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, and other small mammals flourish in
the woods and fields. Wild turkeys and quails nest in the tall grasses,
and various hawk species and bald eagles nest in the trees. Many migrating
birds stop to rest here on their passages north or south, while some,
including arctic snow buntings, stay throughout the winter. Seeking to
ensure safe haven for the wildlife he so deeply appreciates, Mr. Salman
permanently protected this lush sanctuary and its wildlife by donating
a conservation easement to The Wildlife Land Trust.
