This expansive sanctuary lies about 75 miles southeast of Sacramento, in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada. With its hot dry summers and cool, wet winters, the Ordway property hosts a broad diversity of habitat types—from open oak savannah and dense chaparral to undisturbed streams and even several caves. Myriad wildlife species are known to frequent the sanctuary, including mountain lions, black bears, bald and golden eagles, rattlesnakes, and red-legged frogs, which are currently listed as Threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
